Spring: Sparkles of Sounds, Smells, Sights

Spring doesn’t just awaken the world outside. It stirs something within — energy, clarity, a quiet joy. The light shifts, and something in us starts to bloom again too.

Updated on: 01/08/25

It is just before 19:00 hrs. The sun has nearly set. In the distance I see the peaks of Mont Blanc, a soft pastel glow. Birds twerk and seem engaged in a lively conversation with each other. In our garden I saw, earlier today, numerous flowers blossoming. Over the last few days, temperatures have risen to comfortable levels, inviting me to grab my clippers and remove the last remainders of last year’s withered fauna.

Spring, I notice, isn’t just revitalising “life out there”. It is also revitalising me.

I notice how the increase in day light and the very noticeable changes in the way the light enters the home affect my state of mind. I notice a remarkable rise in energy within; ideas and plans for the (near) future. An increase in serenity, too. It is a strange combination, this serenity while there is this noticeable increase in the opposite, too: energy, bursting at the seams. Like flower bulbs that are about to crack open so they can partake in the festivities of the seasons to come: Spring, and Summer. Until, of course, Falls sets in again, and everything withers and fades.

A colourful group of wildflowers including pink cosmos, white daisies, purple bells, and lavender against a blue sky with scattered clouds.

But for now, there is this deep enchantment. Seeing the trees grow new leaves, and flowers and grass come up in this fresh green that is so typical of this season… They too respond to the changing quantities and qualities of the light. Doing what comes naturally: sprout, grow & blossom. The sparkles of sounds, smells and sights – truly breathtaking.

Truly enchanting.

An enchanted world is one that speaks to the soul, to the mysterious depths of the heart and imagination where we find value, love, and union with the world around us. As mystics of many religions have taught, that sense of rapturous union can give a sensation of fulfillment that makes life purposeful and vibrant….

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
